Synthesizing video of someone talking, scary or cool?

I just came across this video of some computer scientists synthesizing Obama talking. They have trained a computer to generate a video of him saying something with a different video.

The implications of this are that, with some post processing, a world leader or really anyone can be in a video saying things that they didn't say. Therefore, no video can be trusted as proof of someone saying something.

It's very interesting but also terrifying in my opinion.

Very interesting, I am currently working on video manipulation with neural networks as well, transfering the facial expressions from one actor to another in real time (based on the idea of the Face2Face work, published in form of papers and also demo videos).

I think those university projects rise awareness of topics like video manipulation, of course it's kind of terrifying but you cannot stop progress and it's important to show people the possibilities of 'fake news'.
